Queens Cosmetic Dentistry – Traditional Braces versus Invisalign

For those who are in need of getting cosmetic dentistry to straighten and align their teeth, there is a lot of debate over whether to get traditional braces or to opt for the more modern clear aligners that Invisalign offers. Both methods of straightening and aligning teeth have their pros and cons. It is really a matter of which method fits your budget and teeth straightening need the best. However, read on to get a more in-depth look at both methods to see how they measure up.

To this day, traditional braces are still very popular for cosmetic dentistry and just that area of dental work in general. You can get braces in either metal or porcelain. Metal is the definitely the cheapest version. It has been around the longest and is the most commonly used. The main downside to getting metal braces instead of porcelain ones is that the metal is silver and highly noticeable. Porcelain braces, however, are white and blend in quite nicely with your teeth. They are still noticeable, but not as bad as the metal ones. Both types of braces require a lot of upkeep and you have to be careful what you eat or drink with them. So that is something to keep in mind when it comes to braces.

Invisalign is starting to gain some steam with those needing cosmetic dentistry. The reason is that they are clear and fit over your teeth so that no one can really tell that you are straightening your teeth. The biggest downside is that the clear aligners are each used for two weeks at a time. That means every two weeks you will have to change the aligner and you will have to go see the dentist more often than you would with just normal braces. The good news is that you can easily take them out when you want to eat or drink, so you do not have to stay away from certain things in that respect.

Either option of teeth straightening and alignment in cosmetic dentistry comes down to what your budget can afford. Of course, metal braces are the most economical choice because they are cheaper than the porcelain braces. Both metal and porcelain braces are incredibly cheaper than Invisalign. But, if you can afford to get Invisalign, that is definitely the best way to go because of how convenient the clear aligners are. It also helps by not making the awkward teenager’s existence even more awkward – so that is something else to consider.

Dental insurance plans usually pay for all or most of the cost of dental cleanings and check ups every six months.  Take advantage of this and save a lot of money in the long run by avoiding costly dental procedures that can result from poor oral hygiene.
